Since starting on this journey in 2017, I’ve dedicated myself to a deep exploration of on-site work and site-specific artworks within the captivating realms of archaeological landscapes. This self-directed project, which continues to unfold, has led me across the diverse ancient sites nestled in the Muğla region and beyond, traversing the rich tapestry of Turkey’s historical heritage. My artistic endeavors have materialized into site-specific sculptures complimenting various locations such as the ancient cities of Amos, Thera, Stratonikeia, Lagina, Sagalassos and Knidos, alongside Nimara and Girmeler Caves.
Each creation is informed by the essence and energies of its specific site, transcending the constraints of time and space. Through extensive research into the intricate histories of these sites and their profound associations with specific deities, I strive to infuse my work with deep reverence. Immersing myself in the dynamic energies of these ancient environs has heightened my understanding and cultivated an intimate connection that extends beyond mere observation.
Within these sacred spaces, I unravel the mysteries of Turkey’s cultural heritage, delving into the realms of Anatolian and Graeco-Roman cult deities from Kybele, Leto and Hekate to Zeus, Athena, Apollo and Aphrodite. Central to my exploration are the archaic rituals that once pulsated through these landscapes; rites dedicated to gods and goddesses, celebrations of harvest, acts of healing and ceremonies of death commemoration.
Driven by an insatiable curiosity for the past, this project seeks to seamlessly blend contemporary artistic expressions with the topographies of bygone eras. Through the creation of modern offerings and shrines, I aspire to rejuvenate these ancient sites, enriching their narrative with a vibrant contemporary layer. The aim of this project transcends mere artistic expression; it serves as a testament to the mysterious legacies and timeless allure of Turkey’s ancient landscapes.
