Carian Project is an art project/self-declared artist residency collaboration between to artist friends, Taryn Tomasello (Portland, Oregon USA) and Marga Karayol (Turunç, Muğla Turkey) based in the ancient Carian settlement of Amos near Turunç, Turkey.

Inspired by distance, both geographical and cultural, Carian Project explores making art on site that resonates with the landscape, connecting people to place, present to past, distance to closeness. By exploring what it means to make work in response to a site, this project also hopes to encourage other artists to create work in ancient sites and to generate an interest in Amos, the ancient Carians and encourage people to learn about this often overlooked, nearly forgotten ancient civilization that is an important part of Turkey’s cultural history.
